Portable soccer goals can fall over and cause serious injury or death, which is why the CPSC advises anchoring or counterweighting them at all times. The SGUA underground anchor set is the permanent-footing answer: four 18" long anchors of 2-3/8" O.D. galvanized steel that stay in the field year-round, out of the way of mowers and players.
Installation starts with the goal positioned on the field so the anchor points can be marked. Each hole is dug a minimum of 12" in diameter and at least 3' (36") deep, half-filled with concrete, and the anchor is worked down into the center until its top is flush with grade. The remaining concrete is sloped away from the center for drainage and left to cure for roughly 36 hours. The concrete foundation is supplied by others.
Once cured, the strap clamps attach to the goal's backstay tube and bolt to the anchor with the supplied 5/16" x 1" bolts and washers. Anchors and clamps are heavy gage galvanized steel and are designed for goals with 1-5/8" diameter backstays. Gared calls for a minimum of two anchors per goal, so one set of four covers a matched pair.
