The First Team Astro Express competition volleyball system features robust uprights constructed with an external 3 ½” outside diameter, ¼” wall 6063 T-6 aluminum tube and a 3” outside diameter 6061-T6 aluminum telescoping inner pole. A pin in the outer tube prevents inner pole rotation and separation, while a non-marking footpad protects gym floors. Net height is infinitely variable from a minimum of 78” to 96”, adjusted by a single threaded release knob, with height settings clearly identified on the inner tube.
The system includes a one-meter high net, made of black polypropylene 3.5mm knotless woven webbing, with a Kevlar top rope and polypropylene bottom rope. The top rope is tensioned by a 26:1 ratio worm gear winch with a 2” wide nylon webbing strap and a non-removable folding handle, using a 4” diameter steel pulley. The bottom rope is tensioned by a ratcheting style tensioner, and net side tapes, which contain internal dowels, are tensioned by no less than two ratchet style rope tensioners per end.
Player safety is enhanced with no less than ½” thick foam padding with a white vinyl cover for the top and bottom ropes, and standard padding of 1 ½” thick high-density foam covered with vinyl in 12 school colors, reaching a minimum height of 72”.
