In short

The Gared Collegiate Jam GP8A60DM is a bolt-to-ground adjustable basketball system with a 5" square steel post, a 42" x 60" 3/8" acrylic backboard and a Gared 1000 Scholastic breakaway rim. A lockable sidewind actuator raises and lowers the goal anywhere between 7'-0" and 10'-0", so the same hoop serves youth players and competitive play. Padding is not included and is ordered separately.

Designed for outdoor use in parks, playgrounds and residential settings, the Collegiate Jam uses a 5" square steel post with 3/16" wall thickness finished in black powder coat. Two formed steel extension arms connect to the post with a large diameter pivot bolt, and every pivot point runs on tight-fit non-metallic flanged bearings. The lower lifting arm connects directly to the goal and board mount while the upper arms tie into the welded steel backboard frame, giving a 3'-0" distance from the backboard to the post at the 10' playing height.

Height is changed with a heavy duty lockable actuator that raises and lowers the backboard and goal effortlessly at any setting between 7'-0" and 10'-0". The post is surface mounted with a bolt-to-ground design over a template plate and 3/4" zinc plated U-bolts, which simplifies installation and allows the system to be relocated later. Installation calls for roughly 1/2 yard of concrete, or 14 to 16 bags of 80 lb pre-mix, cured 72 hours before the post goes up.

The board is a Gared BB60A38 rectangular acrylic backboard, 42" high by 60" wide, built from 3/8" acrylic permanently attached to a steel tubular frame with aluminum extrusions and drilled on 20" vertical centers. It carries a Gared model 1000 Scholastic Breakaway Rim with an official 18" ring of 5/8" diameter steel, full wing brace design, continuous no-tie net attachment, orange powder coat finish and a nylon net. Optional LSCE60 backboard padding, PP5WR wrap-around or PP5SQF fitted pole pads and a BP5SQ base pole pad are available separately.

Warranty

1 Year Limited Warranty

Gared Holdings LLC warrants its equipment against defects in material or factory workmanship. Coverage length depends on the product line — this model carries the warranty noted above where listed. Gared's warranty periods run as follows:

Lifetime - Endurance playground systems: in-ground post, extension arm and bracing components.
25 years - Standard Duty and Heavy Duty playground posts (braced gooseneck and adjustable straight post structures).
10 years - volleyball uprights on OmniSteel, OmniLite, RallyLine and GoCourt systems, and economy playground posts.
5 years - FGP series football goalposts, manual and electric winches, curtain hoists and the SafStop gymnasium structure.
4 years - 2500 / 2500I Tournament breakaway goals.
3 years - winch assemblies, floor sleeves and cover plates, and regulation volleyball nets.
2 years - portable winch winders and selected backboards.
1 year - nets, padding, base adapters, height adjusters, badminton and tetherball systems, referee stands and accessories.

The warranty period starts on the date of substantial completion (installation). Defects must be reported to Gared in writing during the warranty period with proof of purchase and the purchase or installation date; Gared will repair or replace the defective equipment at its discretion, with shipping, insurance and installation costs borne by the owner.

Not covered: improper installation, use other than intended, unauthorized alterations or modifications, abuse or misuse, and damage from fire, flood, wind or lightning. Liability is limited to repair or replacement of the defective equipment. As an authorized Gared dealer, JoySportStore files warranty claims directly with the manufacturer on your behalf.

Frequently asked questions

Is padding included with the Collegiate Jam?

No. Padding is not included with the unit. Gared offers LSCE60 60" recreational pro-mold backboard padding, PP5WR wrap-around or PP5SQF fitted pole pads for 5" square posts, and the BP5SQ base pole pad for surface mount posts.

What is required to install this system?

The post uses a bolt-to-ground design over a template plate and U-bolt assembly set in concrete. Plan on about 1/2 yard of concrete (14-16 bags of 80 lb pre-mix) and allow the concrete to cure for 72 hours before installing the post.

How does the Collegiate Jam differ from the glass version?

GP8A60DM uses the BB60A38 3/8" acrylic backboard and weighs 362 lbs, while the GP8G60DM version uses a 3/8" glass board and weighs 391 lbs. All other components are shared.
