In short

The Gared 5500 is a playground double ring breakaway basketball goal with two official 18" rings of 5/8" diameter steel, a full wrap-around wing brace and a dual return spring breakaway mechanism factory set to release at 90 lbs. Its universal mounting plate fits most 42" and 48" rectangular backboards plus most fan-shaped boards, and it ships with an anti-whip GGN nylon net and mounting hardware. The goal meets NCAA (except Division I) and NFSHSA requirements.

Double ring goals exist because playground hoops take abuse that indoor rims never see. The 5500 answers that with two official size 18" rings of 5/8" diameter steel carried on a continuous welded wraparound brace, so hanging and rough play do not bend the ring out of true. The finish is official orange powder coat.

The breakaway action uses a unique stack spring construction with dual return springs, which gives consistent rebound and lets the goal deflect progressively as pressure increases. It leaves the factory preset to deflect at 90 lbs and normally needs no adjustment, though the vertical springs can be tuned in half-turn increments if the rim ever becomes loose or tight. Adjustment beyond 1/4" from the original factory position calls for a word with Gared customer service.

A universal goal mounting plate fits the hole patterns of most 42" and 48" rectangular backboards and most fan-shaped backboards, and installation needs only a Phillips screwdriver, a 9/16" wrench and a level. Stud nuts are torqued to 9 to 11 ft-lbs and bolt nuts to 15 to 20 ft-lbs. A continuous no-tie net attachment simplifies hanging the included anti-whip nylon net.

Warranty

2 Years Limited Warranty

Gared Holdings LLC warrants its equipment against defects in material or factory workmanship. Coverage length depends on the product line — this model carries the warranty noted above where listed. Gared's warranty periods run as follows:

Lifetime - Endurance playground systems: in-ground post, extension arm and bracing components.
25 years - Standard Duty and Heavy Duty playground posts (braced gooseneck and adjustable straight post structures).
10 years - volleyball uprights on OmniSteel, OmniLite, RallyLine and GoCourt systems, and economy playground posts.
5 years - FGP series football goalposts, manual and electric winches, curtain hoists and the SafStop gymnasium structure.
4 years - 2500 / 2500I Tournament breakaway goals.
3 years - winch assemblies, floor sleeves and cover plates, and regulation volleyball nets.
2 years - portable winch winders and selected backboards.
1 year - nets, padding, base adapters, height adjusters, badminton and tetherball systems, referee stands and accessories.

The warranty period starts on the date of substantial completion (installation). Defects must be reported to Gared in writing during the warranty period with proof of purchase and the purchase or installation date; Gared will repair or replace the defective equipment at its discretion, with shipping, insurance and installation costs borne by the owner.

Not covered: improper installation, use other than intended, unauthorized alterations or modifications, abuse or misuse, and damage from fire, flood, wind or lightning. Liability is limited to repair or replacement of the defective equipment. As an authorized Gared dealer, JoySportStore files warranty claims directly with the manufacturer on your behalf.

Which backboards does the 5500 fit?

Is the net included?

Yes. The goal is supplied with an anti-whip GGN nylon net and the mounting hardware needed to attach it to the backboard, and the continuous no-tie ring makes net installation quick.

Does the breakaway need adjusting?

No. The goal is preset at the factory to deflect at 90 lbs and should not require adjustment. If it becomes loose or tight, the vertical springs can be adjusted equally in half-turn steps, but never more than 1/4" from the factory position.
