In short

The Gared 1194 Electric Hoist is a gymnasium backstop winch designed to raise and lower ceiling-hung basketball backstops and fold-up wall-mounted systems. It is rated for a 1250 lbs continuous lift for 15 minutes, runs on 110/115/120 VAC single phase power and is UL Listed. The 1195-01-00 key switch, required for key switch operation, is a separate model.

The Model 1194 Electric Backstop Hoist is Gared's powered solution for gymnasium equipment that must be raised and lowered regularly. It is designed for ceiling-hung basketball backstops and fold-up wall-mounted systems, replacing manual winch operation with a motorized, instant-reversing drive.

Mechanically the hoist uses a 200:1 worm gearbox with positive locking to hold the load, with hardened metal gears running in a sealed aluminum housing. The 4.5" diameter grooved drum is supported on large diameter ball bearings and anchors the rope through the drum, while a constant-pressure torsion-spring roller keeps the cable tracking correctly even when the cable slacks. Rope travel is 30' on one layer with an additional 25' on the second layer for 55' total, at 9.5 FPM.

The unit runs on a minimum 3/4 HP, 9.5 A instant-reversing motor with thermal protection, supplied with a 6' power cord and L14-20 twist lock plug rated for 20 Amp service. Heavy duty gear-driven upper and lower limit switches control the travel limits. The hoist mounts to a powder coated heavy duty steel frame with attaching hardware for 3.5" diameter tubing and accepts 1/4" diameter 7 x 19 galvanized aircraft cable, which is not supplied with the hoist.

Warranty

5-Year Limited Warranty on Models 1194/1197 Electric Hoists

Gared Holdings LLC warrants its equipment against defects in material or factory workmanship. Coverage length depends on the product line — this model carries the warranty noted above where listed. Gared's warranty periods run as follows:

Lifetime - Endurance playground systems: in-ground post, extension arm and bracing components.
25 years - Standard Duty and Heavy Duty playground posts (braced gooseneck and adjustable straight post structures).
10 years - volleyball uprights on OmniSteel, OmniLite, RallyLine and GoCourt systems, and economy playground posts.
5 years - FGP series football goalposts, manual and electric winches, curtain hoists and the SafStop gymnasium structure.
4 years - 2500 / 2500I Tournament breakaway goals.
3 years - winch assemblies, floor sleeves and cover plates, and regulation volleyball nets.
2 years - portable winch winders and selected backboards.
1 year - nets, padding, base adapters, height adjusters, badminton and tetherball systems, referee stands and accessories.

The warranty period starts on the date of substantial completion (installation). Defects must be reported to Gared in writing during the warranty period with proof of purchase and the purchase or installation date; Gared will repair or replace the defective equipment at its discretion, with shipping, insurance and installation costs borne by the owner.

Not covered: improper installation, use other than intended, unauthorized alterations or modifications, abuse or misuse, and damage from fire, flood, wind or lightning. Liability is limited to repair or replacement of the defective equipment. As an authorized Gared dealer, JoySportStore files warranty claims directly with the manufacturer on your behalf.

Frequently asked questions

Is the lifting cable included with the 1194 hoist?

No. The hoist accepts 1/4" diameter 7 x 19 galvanized aircraft cable with a 7000 lb breaking strength, but the cable is not supplied with the hoist.

What are the electrical requirements for the Gared 1194 Electric Hoist?

Where should the key switch be mounted?

Gared specifies that the key switch must be located in an area that allows the backstop to be visible to the operator, but it should not be directly under the backstop.
