For most fields, an infield tarp is really a set of spot covers sized to the dirt circles: an 18 ft. round cover matches the 18-foot pitching mound circle in the MLB rules, a 26 ft. round cover matches the 26-foot circle around home plate, and 10 ft. square or 10 to 12 ft. round covers protect the base areas. Measure your own mound and plate circles before ordering, because those diameters only carry over to a 60-foot Little League diamond when that field's circles are the same size. JoySport Store lists Jaypro spot covers from 10 ft. square to 30 ft. round, priced from $221 to $1,769.
The phrase "baseball field tarp" describes two different products. A full-infield tarp blankets the entire skin and needs a roller and a crew to deploy. A spot cover protects one piece of dirt that is expensive to repair: the mound, the home plate area or a base cutout.
The JoySport Store catalog (2026) is a spot-cover assortment. It carries six Jaypro tarp and rain-cover models in 6 oz. polyethylene and 18 oz. UV-treated vinyl, from 10 ft. square to 30 ft. round, plus Portolite turf mound protection from $79 to $3,600. It does not currently list full-infield tarps, tarp rollers or tarp storage carts, so this guide focuses on sizing mound, plate and base covers.
Tarp sizes follow the rulebook circles, not the overall size of the field. The base path length tells you which level you are building for, but the mound and plate circles tell you which cover to buy.
| Level | Base path | Pitching mound circle | Home plate circle | Rulebook |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MLB / regulation baseball | 90 feet between bases (Rule 2.01) | 18-foot diameter (Appendix 2) | 26-foot circle (Diagram No. 1) | MLB Official Baseball Rules 2025 |
| Little League, ages 12 and below | 60 feet | Varies by league; measure the dirt circle | Varies by league; measure the dirt circle | Little League field specifications |
The Little League specifications give the 60-foot base path, but mound and plate circle sizes on youth fields vary by league and by how the field was built. The same cover diameters apply on a 60-foot diamond only where that field's own mound and plate circles are the same size as the MLB numbers, so a tape measure is the deciding tool.
Using only the catalog sizes and the rulebook numbers above, here is how each cover lines up with each piece of dirt.
| Spot | Rulebook circle | Cover size | Models and prices |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pitching mound, edge to edge | 18-foot diameter | 18 ft. round | WWMC $483, BBRC $566, BBRCW $1,057 |
| Pitching mound, overlapping the edge | 18-foot diameter | 20 ft. round | AFC-PM $414, WWMC $563, BBRC $732, BBRCW $1,237 |
| Home plate area | 26-foot circle | 26 ft. round | AFC-HP $680, WWMC $1,127, BBRC $1,110, BBRCW $1,769 |
| Largest round cover listed | Larger than either circle | 30 ft. round | WWMC $1,321 |
| Base areas | Not a rulebook circle | 10 ft. square (10 ft. W x 10 ft. L) | AFC-BC3 $454 |
| Base areas | Not a rulebook circle | 10 ft. and 12 ft. round | BBRC 10 ft. $221, BBRC 12 ft. $315, BBRCW 12 ft. $649 |
An 18 ft. round cover matches the 18-foot mound circle edge to edge. A 20 ft. round cover is larger than that circle and overlaps its edge, which keeps runoff from landing right at the clay line. The Jaypro Baseball Tarp with Ground Stakes in 20 ft. round (AFC-PM, $414) is the catalog's entry mound cover at a 19-pound weight.
A 26 ft. round cover matches the 26-foot circle around home plate shown in Diagram No. 1. The Jaypro Baseball Tarp with Ground Stakes in 26 ft. round (AFC-HP, $680) is the polyethylene option at 30 lbs shipping weight, with the WWMC, BBRC and BBRCW offering the same diameter in weighted-hem or vinyl builds.
The 10 ft. square Jaypro tarp listed as 3 Base (AFC-BC3, $454) measures 10 ft. W x 10 ft. L and is sized to keep the dirt around the bags dry. The 10 ft. and 12 ft. round BBRC and BBRCW rain covers serve the same base-area role in vinyl.
Material is the second decision after size. The polyethylene models are lighter and cost less at most sizes; the vinyl models add weather resistance and heavier hardware.
| Material | Models | Sizes listed | Price range | Key specs on the card |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 oz. polyethylene | AFC-PM, AFC-HP, AFC-BC3, WWMC | 10 ft. square; 18, 20, 26 and 30 ft. round | $414 to $1,321 | Rip-resistant woven polyethylene, heat-sealed seams, grommets every 3 to 4 feet, reversible white or silver |
| 18 oz. UV-treated vinyl | BBRC, BBRCW | 10, 12, 18, 20 and 26 ft. round | $221 to $1,769 | 18 oz./sq. yd. fully coated vinyl on a 1,000 x 1,300 denier polyester base, UV and mold inhibitors, cold resistance to -40°F, 100 lbs tear strength, 410 lbs grab tensile strength, #4 brass grommets every 36 inches |
Choose polyethylene for a budget mound or plate cover that two people can handle, and when a reversible white or silver face suits your climate. Choose vinyl when the cover will sit out in sun and freeze cycles, or when you want brass grommets at fixed 36-inch spacing for consistent staking.
Anchoring comes two ways. The AFC-PM, AFC-HP, AFC-BC3 and BBRC rely on ground stakes; the BBRC uses low-profile stakes through its brass grommets. The Jaypro Baseball Tarp with Weighted Hem (WWMC) builds an integrated weighted hem into the 6 oz. polyethylene so no stakes or sandbags are required. The Jaypro Baseball Rain Cover with Weighted Hem (BBRCW) adds a perimeter pocket holding 1/4-inch hot-dipped galvanized Grade 30 proof coil chain, and it also ships with stakes.
Weighted hems cost more and weigh more, but they deploy faster on hard-packed clay where stakes are difficult to drive, and they reduce the number of trips around the circle.
Spot covers do not need storage buildings, but they do need a plan. Because the catalog does not list tarp rollers or storage carts, each cover will be folded by hand and carried, so place storage close to the mound and plate rather than in a distant shed.
Budget physical space around each circle for the cover itself. A 20 ft. round cover on an 18-foot mound circle overlaps the circle edge, so the surrounding grass must be clear of equipment while the cover is down. The 26 ft. plate cover and the 30 ft. WWMC both extend well into the area where on-deck gear and catcher's equipment usually sit, so move those before rain arrives.
Plan crew size from the weights on the cards. The 19-pound AFC-PM is a one- or two-person job; the approximately 76 lbs shipping weight of the 18 ft. WWMC calls for two or more people and a cleared path from storage to the mound. If you rely on ground stakes, confirm that the ground outside each circle is soil rather than warning track or pavement, since stakes anchor into the ground beyond the dirt.
A rain tarp keeps water out; turf protection keeps cleats from digging in during practice. The Portolite Pitching Mound Protector ($2,099) is 13' x 4', weighs 57 lbs, is made in the USA and comes in Clay, Green, Red, Brown or Tan. The Portolite Pitch Pad with Velcro ($79) covers high-wear areas on the mound.
Portolite Field Defense System packages bundle these mats: Baseball Bronze $2,500 (Pitching Mound Protector and a Half Batter's Mat), Baseball Silver $3,150 (Full Batter's Mat or two Half Batter's Mats, with a Pitching Mound Protector), Baseball Gold $3,600 (Pitching Mound Protector, Catcher's Mat, and a Full Batter's Mat or two Half Batter's Mats), Softball Bronze $1,975 (Half Batter's Mat) and Softball Silver $2,600 (Full Batter's Mat or two Half Batter's Mats), in Green, Red, Clay or Brown turf.
Pulling a cover leaves a wet ring at the edge and sometimes a puddle line. The same collection lists Jaypro Infield Drag Mats from $305 (4 ft.D x 3 ft.W) to $563 (6 ft.D x 6 ft.W) for working the skin back to level once the covers are folded. Coverage on every tarp and mat is the manufacturer warranty per the product card.

The MLB mound is an 18-foot diameter circle. An 18 ft. round cover (WWMC $483, BBRC $566, BBRCW $1,057) matches it edge to edge; a 20 ft. round cover (AFC-PM $414, WWMC $563, BBRC $732, BBRCW $1,237) overlaps the edge.
MLB Diagram No. 1 shows a 26-foot circle around home plate, so a 26 ft. round cover fits: AFC-HP $680, BBRC $1,110, WWMC $1,127 or BBRCW $1,769.
Not currently. The 2026 catalog lists six Jaypro spot-cover models from 10 ft. square to 30 ft. round, and no full-infield tarps, tarp rollers or storage carts.
The 6 oz. polyethylene models ($414 to $1,321) are reversible white/silver with grommets every 3 to 4 feet. The 18 oz. vinyl models ($221 to $1,769) add UV and mold inhibitors, cold resistance to -40°F and #4 brass grommets every 36 inches.
The AFC-PM, AFC-HP, AFC-BC3 and BBRC use ground stakes. The WWMC has an integrated weighted hem so no stakes or sandbags are required, and the BBRCW uses a chain-filled hem plus stakes.
Little League base paths for ages 12 and below are 60 feet, but mound and plate circle sizes vary by league. The 18 ft. and 26 ft. covers fit only if your field's circles match, so measure first.
Jaypro spot covers run from $221 (10 ft. BBRC) to $1,769 (26 ft. BBRCW). Portolite turf mound protection runs from $79 for the Pitch Pad to $3,600 for the Baseball Gold package.
