Pickleball Net Systems: In-Ground Posts, Surface Mount and Court Dividers (Douglas and More)

A permanent pickleball net system pairs two posts, set in ground sleeves or bolted to a slab, with a winch or reel and a cabled net that reads 36 in at the sidelines and 34 in at center across a 22 ft post spacing. The 2026 JoySport Store catalog covers Douglas, Jaypro, Gared, Dominator and First Team, from a $75 Dominator replacement net to $4,742.40 for the First Team Voyager PKSO. This guide compares in-ground posts, surface-mount posts, nets and court dividers; portable nets are covered in a separate guide.

What a permanent pickleball net system includes

Four parts make up every system: two posts, a tensioner, a net with a cable in the headband, and either ground sleeves or a surface-mount base plate. Nets and sleeves are frequently sold separately, so confirm what is in the box before comparing prices. Douglas in-ground posts, for example, are sold per pair with 24 in sleeves sold separately, while the Gared PKLBIGB ships as a complete system with posts, sleeve kit and net.

The tensioner is the main quality split. Douglas Premier posts use an internal-wind, self-locking 30:1 gear with a chrome removable handle; the Douglas SW-36 Deluxe uses an external-wind aluminum reel with a removable handle. Jaypro and First Team use stainless internal worm-gear winches, and Gared uses a brass worm-gear winder. An internal gear keeps the mechanism inside the post and out of the way of players.

In-ground pickleball net posts compared

In-ground posts drop into sleeves cast in the slab, so they can be pulled for resurfacing or to open the court for other sports. Sleeve depth is 24 in on Douglas systems and 23.5 in on the Gared PKLBCOVER, which is 3.50 in OD Class 200 PVC.

Both Douglas in-ground posts are 54 in overall and stand 36 in above the court when set in a sleeve, and their cards state they meet official USAPA Tournament Regulations. The SW-36 carries Flo-coat galvanization under a baked-on polyester powder coat and a 5-year limited warranty on the card. The RD-36 adds cast aluminum caps and welded lacing rods.

The Jaypro PKB278 and PKB300 Deluxe Club are 4 ft 6 in long with adjustable height-stop collars and removable handles. The PPR10 Deluxe is 2-7/8 in OD with a .203 in wall, 54 in long and made in USA, at $711 alone or $809 as a package.

Gared sells the PKLBIGB complete at $1,142.22, or in parts: posts PKLBPB at $769.70, sleeve kit PKLBCOVER at $161.23 and net PKLBNET at $210.83. Spacing is 22 ft 0 in inside-to-inside, which works out to 22 ft 3 in sleeve center to center on Gared's own card.

Dominator's Heavy-Duty Inground system comes with square or round posts and a 21 ft 9 in net, and allows 22-25 ft center-to-center spacing. First Team Guardian posts are 3.5 in OD schedule 40 aluminum, 1/4 in thick, with a lifetime limited warranty on the PKSM and PKSO cards. For multi-sport courts, the First Team Voyager PK ($4,243.20) and PKSO ($4,742.40) crank from 36 in to 7 ft 11 5/8 in; the PKSO includes two FT5001 hinged-lid floor sockets.

Surface-mount pickleball net posts

Surface mount is the answer when a slab cannot be cored for sleeves. The Douglas Premier Square Surface Mount pair ($699) uses 3 in square 11-gauge steel welded to a 7 in x 7 in base plate, stands 36 in high and carries the same internal 30:1 gear as the RD-36.

The Jaypro PKBSM300-BK ($774) is a 3 in OD post on a plate for concrete or pavement 4 in minimum; anchors are by others. The Dominator Surface Mount ($699) is 6061 T6 aluminum with 1/8 in walls, stainless hardware, crank tension and Simpson Strong-Tie surface bolts, and weighs 40 lb. First Team Guardian posts can also be ordered in a surface-mount configuration.

When the floor must clear

For gyms and multi-use halls, the Douglas PPS-22SQ Premier Portable System ($2,599) puts 3 in square 11-gauge posts on a base frame with a 3/16 in wall. It holds 36 in at the posts and 34 in at center over 22 ft with a 30:1 internal gear, includes the PN-30 net with a Velcro center strap, and rolls on transporter wheels. Stabilizer legs extend 12 in on each side, it weighs 215 lb, and it carries a 5-year warranty.

Nets for permanent posts

The Douglas PN-30 ($169) measures 21 ft 9 in x 31 in in 3.0 mm braided solid-core polyethylene with 1-3/4 in square mesh and a 285 lb netting break strength. The headband is 2-ply vinyl-coated polyester over a 5/32 in vinyl-coated galvanized cable rated at 2,300 lb, with 1/2 in fiberglass side dowels and lacing cord. It weighs 14 lb and carries a 4-year limited warranty.

Jaypro offers the PKBNET ($174) and the competition PT-21N ($291), both 21 ft x 32 in per their titles. The Gared PKLBNET ($210.83) is 21 ft 9 in excluding cable with 1.75 in mesh and 12 brass grommets. Dominator's replacement net is $75.

Pickleball court dividers

Dividers separate adjacent courts and stop stray balls. Douglas builds three systems, plus loose netting you can hang on your own hardware.

System Price Posts Height Mounting
In-ground Divider System $1,899 2-7/8 in OD, 8-gauge steel, 66 in long 4 ft above ground (up to 4 ft 6 in available) 24 in aluminum sleeves recommended
Surface Mount Divider System $2,599 3 in square, 11-gauge steel, 51 in high 51 in post height Welded 7 in x 7 in baseplates with gussets
Movable Divider System $1,899 (4 x 21 ft), $2,299 (4 x 31 ft 6 in), $2,699 (4 x 42 ft) 3 in square, 11-gauge steel, 3/16 in wall frames 4 ft frames with 3 ft 6 in panels Flat stabilizer legs, no drilling or sleeves

The in-ground and surface-mount systems tension panels on 1/4 in galvanized cable with turnbuckles. Panel choices are VCP MAX windscreen mesh (85% windbreak) or #420 knotless pylon netting with 1-1/2 in mesh and 125 lb break strength, both with 1-1/2 in double-sewn vinyl borders and #2 brass grommets. Douglas recommends a 40 ft maximum panel length and offers optional 4 ft x 17 in wraparound pole pads. Movable frames take 3 ft 6 in VCP or VCP MAX panels.

Prefabricated black divider netting is also available: a 10 x 60 ft HDPE panel with rope border ($169) and a 10 x 65 ft panel with vinyl tape border and brass grommets every 18 in ($299). Both have a 125 lb break strength.

Planning your space

Start from the 20 x 44 ft court and the 22 ft post spacing. The posts sit outside the sidelines, so your slab or pad must be wider than the 20 ft playing surface at the net line. Gared's card gives the practical version of this: 22 ft 0 in inside-to-inside between posts, or 22 ft 3 in between sleeve centers. Dominator allows anywhere from 22 to 25 ft center to center, which helps when matching existing sleeves.

Run-off room behind the baselines and between side-by-side courts is not covered in the fact sheet we used; it varies by league, so check with your sanctioning body before pouring concrete.

Sleeve depth drives the slab decision. Douglas sleeves are 24 in and the Gared PKLBCOVER is 23.5 in tall, so the slab and base must accept a hole that deep. If they cannot, use surface mount: Jaypro's PKBSM300-BK calls for concrete or pavement 4 in minimum, and Douglas and Jaypro surface-mount posts need a flat spot for a 7 in x 7 in plate. The Dominator Surface Mount uses Simpson Strong-Tie surface bolts.

For dividers, a 44 ft court is longer than the 42 ft Movable Divider frame, so a full-length run needs more than one frame or an in-ground system. Keep panels at or under the 40 ft recommended maximum between posts. Indoors, the PPS-22SQ needs a clear path for its 215 lb frame and 12 in of extra width on each side for the stabilizer legs.

How to measure / lay out

  • Mark the 20 x 44 ft court, then mark the net line across the middle of the 44 ft length.
  • Set post or sleeve centers 22 ft apart on the net line (22 ft 3 in sleeve center to center for Gared; 22-25 ft for Dominator).
  • Confirm you can dig or core to the sleeve depth: 24 in for Douglas, 23.5 in for Gared PKLBCOVER.
  • For surface mount, verify concrete or pavement is 4 in minimum (Jaypro) and level under each 7 in x 7 in plate.
  • After installation, check 36 in at the sidelines and 34 in at center with the net tensioned.
  • For dividers, keep each panel at or under 40 ft and decide on 4 ft or 4 ft 6 in post height before ordering sleeves.
  • Record the model, sleeve part number and net size for future replacements.
